basil orange juice

There aren't many things I love more than basil. I could incorporate it into just about anything. During summer, I grow my own, and every time I am outside I can't stop myself from rubbing the leaves so that I smell like it. I even burn basil incense.

Now that we've established how much I love fresh basil, you can imagine my excitement when a couple of weeks ago I saw basil orange juice at our local market. It was a little pricey ($7 for a quart) but I picked some up anyway. It was so good (definitely worth the $7), and I was so happy to share some with my neighbor, until he pointed out that it would've been $30 for a gallon of it. I'm not really sure why I didn't think of it like that at the time, but I felt like a fool after he pointed that out.

I decided to make my own, and it was just as good. (And much cheaper.) Enjoy. :]

ingredients:
6 oranges
1 large bunch of basil

directions:
Peel oranges and juice, along with the basil in a juicer.

*Depending on the size/ripeness of your oranges, this will yield about 16-24 oz. It serves two.

  1. I too love basil and plan on growing some this summer!

What kind of juicer do you have? I'm considering investing one of my own - but they seem pretty pricey.

    1. I have a Breville juicer. It's the $100 one. I can't remember the exact model #. I love it, it's just kind of bulky.

  8. This looks and sounds delicious and that's coming from someone who doesn't like orange juice! I love basil and in the summer I love to eat it fresh out of the garden. On occasion I've been known to rub the leaves on my inner wrists and behind my ears as perfume, which makes my boyfriend shake his head and laugh.
